The government is currently looking for an investor to put up a pineapple processing plant in Buret District in the Rift Valley province.

Agriculture minister William Ruto said the proposed plant would process pineapples and package them for export and also the local market, to compete with other international companies processing pineapples in the country.

The pineapple crop is thriving in the region but farmers lack access to markets.

“We want farmers to reap from pineapples and the only way is to construct a processing plant for them in the district,” said Ruto.
