The agricultural sector will benefit from an almost 100% increment in budgetary allocations in the next fiscal year, a move that is expected to boost the sector.

President Kibaki announced plans to increase budgetary allocation to agriculture to 8% from the current 4.5% shared by agricultural affiliated ministries.

An estimated KSh.60.8 billion will be available for the six ministries including Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock, Water and Irrigation, Regional Development, Cooperatives Development and Northern Kenya and Arid lands Development.

Reforms in key sub-sectors, credit financing and input subsidies are other official intervention measures that will fast track the country towards food sufficiency.
