Information Permanent Secretary, Dr Bitange Ndemo, has emphasised the importance of the ICT sector to Kenya’s economy, reports the Daily Nation.

Dr Ndemo said that Information Communication Technology could contribute as much as 50% of Kenya’s GDP. He urged the government to embrace the opportunities afforded by the ICT sector, saying that this would allow Kenya to meet its long-term economic goals. Dr Ndemo added that a shift away from agriculture towards a service industry underpinned by communications technologies would allow Kenya to take its place on the global stage and improve the quality of life enjoyed by most Kenyans.
