Construction is set to get underway next month on the Kenya-Ethiopia highway, reports The Nation. 

The project, which will be funded by the African Development Bank and the European Union, is expected to enhance trade between Kenya and Ethiopia and create thousands of jobs in Kenya’s northern frontier region.

“The highway is a major priority to us and we will ensure that it is [completed] within the time limits set by the government,” said Mr Meshack Kidenda, director-general of the Kenya National Highways Authority. Mr Kidenda went on to pledge that the authority would provide Kenyans with the roads they deserved.

Sh23 billion of the funds set aside for the development of infrastructure in last week’s budget is expected to be used in the maintenance and upgrading of Kenya’s roads.
