Foreign and local investors have the opportunity to get involved in Kenya's tourism and property sectors by investing in the proposed Golf City development.

Kenya Railways, as part of its mandate to develop its assets, has developed a strategy to create exciting and innovative property developments. One key development is Golf City in the capital Nairobi.

Location

The proposed Golf City will be located on two properties belonging to Kenya Railways and the Kenya Railways Staff Retirement Benefits Scheme:

a) The Railway Golf Club on the east of Haile Selassie Avenue measuring 63 acres
b) The Railway Club on the west of Haile Selassie Avenue and bordering Uhuru Park

Project Features

The project will involve the development of the following facilities:

  • A five star hotel – 100 rooms
  • A four star hotel – 600 rooms
  • Top of the range exclusive cottages
  • A nine hole golf course
  • A golf club house with a modern gym and associated facilities
  • Conference facilities
  • Exhibition rooms
  • Shopping mall
  • An IMAX theatre
  • Adequate parking facilities – 2000 cars

Provision has been made for the future construction of a metropolitan rail terminal connecting the facility with Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the rest of the city.

    Project Benefits

Some of the direct benefits accruing to the City of Nairobi as a result of the proposed development are:

    a) Increased hotel bed and conference capacity for Nairobi that will attract conference and leisure tourism.
    b) State-of-the art commercial facilities for business and trade.
    c) The architecture and the buildings will be an icon for Nairobi and improve the city skyline.
    d) The revamped golf course will add to the scenic beauty of Nairobi.
    e) Job creation in tourism, recreation, construction, etc.
    f) The provision of a metro terminal will help reduce congestion and improve passenger transport in Nairobi.

    Project Implementation

Finance and development will be through a joint venture between Kenya Railways and interested investors.
