Project: Mzima II pipeline project

Location: Coast Province

Summary: This is a high capital investment project that is intended to deliver about 160 000m3/day of water from Mzima springs to Mombasa, over a distance of about 220 km. The main component is a conveyance system to transport water by gravity. There is an opportunity in this regard for a turnkey arrangement involving provision of financing, engineering design and construction services, at terms to be negotiated.

Proposed investment structure: Joint ventures and BOT

Estimated cost: US$300-million

Project: Tana Delta irrigation rehabilitation and expansion

Summary: The Tana Delta has a high potential for increasing irrigation acreage, thus contributing significantly to food security particularly rice production. The project needs rehabilitation and expansion to realise its full potential, which is estimated at 6 000 hectares. An opportunity exists to team up with the Tana and Athi River Development Authority (TARDA) to actualise this project. The Tana Delta in Kenya is one of Africa’s most valuable wetlands and holds much potential for the country.

Estimated cost: US$50-million
